Lovely Fenix could tell stories so gruesome they’d make your hair stand on end. Tales right out of a horror movie, or one of the worst true-crime novels you ever read. Practically beheaded by a man wielding a machete. Fenix barely escaped with her life. But escape she did, and even though she hid in terror for almost two weeks, locals finally found her and brought her to rescue.

These days Fenix lives the life of royalty. She has free run of our fenced acres, even though more often than not she chooses to curl up inside our house and nap the hours away. When she feels active she plays hard, with a special affinity toward the younger dogs who still romp like puppies. Her neck bears a scar but it’s no longer painful, and it can only be seen from certain angles. We call it a complete recovery, mind, body, and spirit.
