Sweet Mama Cerise, abandoned with seven puppies and utterly terrified. MMAS normally does not accept dogs directly off the street, because they are not vaccinated or quarantined, and we are not set up for this kind of open intake. But Cerise was different. We saw the following photo of her and saying “no” was not an option.

The look on her face was pure panic. All those babies to feed, and no idea where her next meal would come from. We had her driven several hours to Bijagua, where we met the transport and brought her home. One of her puppies, the little tan one second from left, was adopted by our Operations Director Christina Trail. The other six remained with us permanently, since brokering adoptions is not within our scope. We hope to never be faced with intaking another litter, and the best way to ensure that doesn’t happen is to keep pushing the spay/neuter agenda in our community.
